vinylgirl's Diaryland Diary

i am a mosaic

Something I have been intending to post for a while. A poem I wrote for my creative writing class and the first poem in a while.

I am a mosaic
Jagged edged tiles arranged
To form Femme Assise 1909
Fractured pieces assembled: circles, triangles, squares, and all
A faceted image, yet complete unity
Symmetry and asymmetry
Insides and outsides
Geometry and colour make love
A clue to her form is in the eyes

Personality and identity
Akin to helium and hydrogen
Whose purity in nature is rare
Their bonds and compounds instead
Prove more useful
Femme takes little pieces from different springs
Breaking them down (hammer and sack)
Constructing something entirely new
Pink and red, orange and purple
Contradictions

Veronica with Bettys charm
Raven-haired vixen
With a knowledge of cars
Flowing skirts and pointed heels
Yet a domestic talent

A shy exhibitionist
An old-school burlesque
A little leg and cleavage
Hot brass
Un-explicit sexuality
Sensual
Tassels shake, umbrellas hide
Coy

A cynical humanist
Sometimes afraid to trust her fellow man
But always desperate to help
Tears for people never introduced
But understood at the most basic level

The romantic who wants to believe in love
Heart locked in a safety deposit box under her bed
Can we love again like the first time?
Venus in shackles

A Voyeur
Life is best viewed in 35mm
A roll records lifes events
B roll the subconscious
The two are cut together seamlessly
A montage with glowing edges
Soundtrack scored with acoustic guitar and piano
A camera somewhere must be recording
But no one yells, cut when she needs out

No search is required
All perspectives are laid out
Shift position a tiny degree
To feel the full effect
No one perspective defines space
No one characteristic defines Femme mosaic
Porcelain broken from hundreds of dishes, tiles, and pots
Unrecognizable in the new formation
Each piece utterly irrelevant on its own
Tiny embedded clues: the key in the drawer
Provide the visual map

Beyond all appearances, perceptions
What you see is not what you get
